The Neonatology Unit at NMC Royal Hospital Sharjah has a 12 bedded NICU capable of handling Preterm babies more than 22 weeks gestation, Babies with Respiratory distress, Neonatal seizures, Birth asphyxia, Neonatal jaundice and Neonatal Sepsis. NICU has provision of two Isolation rooms.

  • State of art incubators including Giraffe Omni beds and advanced ventilators for HFOV and non-invasive ventilation like CPAP and SIPAP
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula, Bubble CPAP and Flow driven CPAP, SIPAP and Oxygen therapy
  • Whole body Cooling (therapeutic hypothermia) for Asphyxiated neonates
  • Transportation of babies from the Delivery room to the NICU in thermo-neutral temperature using Transport incubator/ Thermal mattresses
  • Transport incubator with ventilator for invasive and non-invasive ventilation like CPAP
  • Expertise in doing Exchange Transfusions for severe Neonatal Jaundice, PIC lines, Umbilical arterial and Umbilical venous lines and Thoracocentesis for pneumothorax
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition
  • CCHD(Critical Congenital Heart Disease )screening
  • Comprehensive Newborn screening
  • ROP screening by senior Retinal Specialist/Consultant
  • LASER therapy for ROP by experienced Retinal Specialist/Consultant in NICU
  • Hearing Assessment by experienced Audiologist
  • State-of-art Phototherapy units -Capsule Phototherapy & Biliblanket (for Intensive Phototherapy), Double and Triple Light Phototherapy units
  • Baby Friendly Hospital where Doctors and Nurses focus on Mother's milk and assist in Lactation management.
  • NICU has 2 Lactation rooms with Breast pumps
  • Counseling of parents is done on daily basis to update parents about their babies progress
  • Kangaroo mother care(KMC) is practiced for preterm babies
  • Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Endocrinology Consultants are available for expert opinions
